Our Outstanding Preschool
We are an Ofsted Outstanding small, rural preschool run from our local village. We’re led by a qualified teacher with over 15 years experience in Early Years and a dedicated Nursery Nurse with an extensive knowledge of SEND. We take children from 2 years old, up until they start in reception class, and intake throughout the academic year.
Our aim is to provide a warm, friendly, safe and richly stimulating environment that prompts fascination and exploration of the world around us and enables our children to actively engage and learn through play.
Parents and other carers such as grandparents are very welcome in our setting. We enjoy having visitors and helpers sharing in the fun we have every day at preschool. We pride ourselves on the strong bonds we build with our children and their families and this is reflected in the support our families give us in return.
We offer breakfast every morning as well as a healthy snack around half ten. We spend a lot of time outside and always ask parents to bring in spare clothes because when you learn through play you tend to get very messy! The children especially love working in our allotment.
We will work with you with potty training and always offer support in your child's development, so do come and ask if you think we can help in any way. If we don't know the answer, we will certainly use all our contacts and resources to try to find you one.

“I have been teaching for nearly 20 years and specialised in Early Years for much of this. I have lived in Clophill with my young family since 2012 with my daughter being the first child to attend Clophill Preschool! We set the Preschool up in 2013 feeling the need to provide high quality Early years learning through a varied and exciting curriculum that utilises the natural environment as a learning tool. My interests lie in arts and crafts as well as travel and the environment. I am constantly amazed by what our little preschool has achieved and how we are developing into an incomparable setting with parents from far and wide seeking us out for their children.”

“I have been in Early Years for nearly 30 years and have spent much of this bringing up my 3 boys on our small-holding. I have a passion for the outdoors, and animals, particularly the local flora and fauna and have been in the village since 2006. When Imogen and I set up our Preschool I had a vision to incorporate this fantastic landscape that we are surrounded by into the children’s learning environment. I knew how vital a learning experience my boys had gained from exploring and learning outside and that this was what I wanted to replicate in our little preschool. “

“I am a very theatrical person who loves to engage the children in imaginative play. I have had many roles in preschools and nurseries and have travelled the world, along with my family, as my husband was in the army for many years. I currently run my own theatre company that visits schools and local events showcasing stories and plays. I have known Chris and Imogen for many years and love their ethos of outdoor play, the children really thrive on exploring through nature and it allows them a freedom of imagination the indoors just cannot bring.”

We run from the rural setting of Clophill Village Hall. Our ethos is to use the outdoors as our classroom as much as the indoors and to explore through sensory play using nature and natural resources as much as possible.
Our outdoor area includes a bespoke wooden shelter, mud pit and kitchen, climbing bank and allotment. We go out every day, our motto being ‘there’s no inappropriate weather, just inappropriate clothing!’. The children tend the allotment, weeding, sowing, harvesting and then eating! The indoor space offers a variety of resources from small world play to mark making, a home corner, book corner and sensory area.
We are lucky to have a large carpark and lots of surrounding space to the setting which we often go on walks around; hunting for mini beasts or moles and meeting the horses.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Our role is to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive and succeed in their learning and development. We ensure that all children and their families feel supported and most of all included in the full life of our Preschool. Early intervention is very important and we work closely with families and outside agencies to provide a positive and clear pathway of planned progression that we can all move towards, together. Every child is different and every child matters to us.
