Learning and development

What will my child learn? We teach your child across a broad curriculum based in nature that is underpinned by communication and language. Our curriculum can be found on the website.

How do you get my child ready for school? We engage and work with your child from the moment they start with us, we want them to leave us with the Life Skills as outlined in our curriculum to ensure children are ready for the next steps in their education journey.

How can I find out what my child is doing at preschool? You can chat to your key worker at the end of the session, it may be too busy at the start of the day. Staff will feedback regularly and share their summaries of your child’s progress, you will also get the opportunity to take your child’s learning journey home to look through.

How can I support my child’s learning and development? We will often share activities to take home: reading books, story sacks etc, key workers will also share your child’s progress termly and give you ideas of things to work on at home. Most importantly, talk to your child and take the time to listen to them. Language development and a broad vocabulary are the foundations for future learning so the more stories you can share, songs you can sing together and conversations you have the better.

What’s a 2 year check? All children receive a 2 year check between the ages of 2 and 3, this is an holistic check on your child’s development and should pick up any concerns you or the Key worker may have about your child’s development. Central Bedfordshire used to do integrated reviews when a health visitor would visit preschool to check on the development of children aged around 3 1/4, these are being slowly phased out and they are going back to 2 year reviews. We will have more information on these in due course.
